Fengshan Star Anise
Fengshan star anise has a long production history. The main varieties include flexible-branch red-flower star anise, ordinary light-red-flower star anise, and flexible-branch white-flower star anise. It is exported to Guangdong, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and other places, and is highly favored by merchants.
Every part of the star anise tree is valuable—the fruits, branches, and leaves can all be used to extract aniseed oil. These products can be further processed into food flavorings and industrial chemical flavorings, as well as special coagulants, coatings, and more, with a wide range of applications.
Fengshan star anise has a long production history. In the early 1990s, leveraging its favorable climate conditions and supported by key policies such as the Western Development Program, ecological public welfare forest subsidies, and the Grain for Green Program, Fengshan adjusted its forest composition and vigorously developed star anise cultivation. Currently, the county’s star anise planting area reaches 260,000 mu, with 180,000 mu in production. In 2011, the total output of dried star anise was 5,502 tons, with a production value of 53.92 million yuan. It is reported that Fengshan’s star anise is mainly distributed across nine towns and five state-owned forest farms, including Fengpang and Potao. Among them, towns such as Changzhou, Qiaoyin, Pingle, and Jiangzhou have large-scale star anise plantations and serve as important production bases for the industry. The main varieties include flexible-branch red-flower star anise, ordinary light-red-flower star anise, and flexible-branch white-flower star anise.
