Since ancient times, the people of Luocheng have had the custom of using wild Vitis quinquangularis grapes to make red wine in a traditional way. When Yu Chenglong, the county magistrate of Luocheng who was posthumously honored by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty as “the most incorruptible official under heaven,” left his post, the local people presented him with red wine brewed from this traditional method, which they had treasured for years, to express their deep affection and reluctance to say goodbye. In May 1928, Qin Renchang, a renowned Chinese botanist, collected wild grape specimens in Luocheng and published papers in journals in the UK, the US, and Germany, attracting global attention from the botanical academic community. In 1989, professors including Li Zhenning from the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, conducted in-depth investigations in Luocheng and confirmed that wild Vitis quinquangularis is a unique new plant species native to the Jiulong Mountains in Guangxi, officially naming it Luocheng Vitis Quinquangularis. In 2000, French technical authorities identified that Luocheng Wild Vitis Quinquangularis Red Wine contains two unique substances not found in other wines.

Luocheng is mountainous, and the soil, sunlight, rainfall, and other natural conditions in its mountainous regions are highly suitable for the growth of wild Vitis quinquangularis grapes. Especially since the county has a low level of industrialization, the wild grapes can thrive in a pollution-free environment, making it a truly unique treasure land. The Luocheng wine made from wild Vitis quinquangularis grapes has an amber color, appearing deep red and translucent with an elegant hue. Upon careful tasting, it is sweet with a slight acidity, mellow and refreshing, stimulating saliva with a lingering aftertaste, and features a rich and delicate layering of flavors, truly a perfect combination of color, aroma, and taste.

In September 2000, Luocheng Mulam Autonomous County was recognized as the “Hometown of China’s Wild Vitis Quinquangularis Grapes” by the Organizing Committee of the China Specialties Hometown Promotion and Publicity Campaign. Made from these unpolluted wild Vitis quinquangularis grapes as raw materials, using traditional techniques, low-temperature fermentation, and years of aging and refining, Luocheng Wild Vitis Quinquangularis Red Wine retains the flavor and characteristics of the original fruit. It is rich in various nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, organic acids, and minerals, especially containing health-beneficial elements for the human body such as iodine, sulfur, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12.

Luocheng Wild Vitis Quinquangularis Red Wine contains no additives, and the wine has a gem-like red color. The wine is rich and mellow, with a unique fruity flavor, leaving a lingering fragrance on the palate that refreshes the heart and soul. It is an excellent choice for drinking and gifting. Over the years, the product has been highly favored by consumers both within and outside the region. This wine has won the Guangxi “Quality Food Award,” ranked first in overall evaluation in the regional liquor competition, was designated as the official product for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 1998, received the International Gold Award at the First World Wine Industry Achievements Expo in 1999, was a quality-assured product of the China Light Industry Product Quality Assurance Center from 1999 to 2005, recognized as a nationally trustworthy food product, was the exclusive red wine for the 2003 Nanning International Folk Song Art Festival, a Guangxi Famous Product in both 2003 and 2005, and obtained geographical indication (origin mark) product certification in 2004.
