Zhao Ping Red features tightly twisted, spiral-shaped leaves that are uniform and compact in shape, with a dark lustrous and golden hue. The liquor is bright red and vibrant, exuding a high, lingering fragrance. Its taste is rich, mellow, fresh, and smooth, with a velvety mouthfeel and a long, memorable aftertaste. Zhao Ping Red has been awarded a National Geographical Indication Certification trademark.

“Zhao Ping Red” is a new black tea product developed by Xiangqi Mountain Tea Company using the leaf material of the “Fuyun No. 6” green tea cultivar, applying an innovative process to make Gongfu-style black tea. It overcomes technical challenges typically encountered when making black tea from green tea cultivars—such as uneven fermentation, lack of redness in the liquor, weak aroma, bland taste, and strong bitterness or astringency. The resulting Zhao Ping Red product features tightly twisted, spiral-shaped leaves that are uniform and compact in shape, with a dark lustrous and golden hue. The liquor is bright red and vibrant, with a striking golden rim along the cup edge. The leaves at the bottom of the cup are uniformly bright red with plump, tender buds. The aroma is high and lingering, the taste is rich, mellow, fresh, and smooth, the mouthfeel is velvety, and the aftertaste is long and memorable.

Zhao Ping Red originates from Guangxi’s Zhao Ping County, one of China’s renowned organic tea production regions. Zhao Ping, historically known as Nan Yue, has over 1,000 years of documented history in tea production and processing. Xiangqi Mountain Eco-Organic Tea Garden is located within a pristine natural forest reserve, enjoying a mild and moist climate with abundant rainfall. The area features undulating mountain ranges, a forest coverage rate of over 90%, and mountain peaks with average elevations of 800–1,000 meters or more. The peaks are often shrouded in clouds and mist all day, and the soil layers are deep and slightly acidic. Experts from both China and abroad have praised it as “the most suitable place for tea cultivation.”

Starting in 2013, it became the designated premium reception tea for the Myanmar Consulate and the official tea for the 10th China-ASEAN Expo in 2013.

In 2013, the “Zhao Ping Red” trademark applied for by the Zhao Ping County Tea Association was approved and registered as a China National Geographical Indication Certification trademark by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. The trademark registration number is: 12124997.
