NanShui Triangle Bream
NanShui Triangle Bream is a specialty of Ruyuan County, Shaoguan. It is produced in the NanShui Reservoir and Hengxi Reservoir of Ruyuan County, Shaoguan City. Between 1989 and 1991, the Biology Department of South China Normal University and the Aquatic Bureau of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County collaborated to introduce and domesticate this high-quality freshwater fish. The NanShui and Hengxi reservoirs in Ruyuan County have abundant water supply and fresh, unpolluted water that meets national fishery standards, making them suitable for farming the Triangle Bream, a fish that demands high water quality. Belonging to the Cyprinidae family and Megalobrama genus, the NanShui Triangle Bream is an omnivorous fish found in the middle and lower layers of water bodies. It feeds on cladocerans, while adult fish mainly consume aquatic plants such as Vallisneria natans and Hydrilla verticillata. It also eats soft-bodied organisms like freshwater clams and aquatic insects. Commercial fish feed can be used as well. This species requires high water quality, with clean water and high dissolved oxygen levels being essential for its habitat. NanShui Triangle Bream is known for its large size, thick flesh, small head, short body, few bones, tender texture, and delicious taste, making it a premium variety among freshwater fish. In addition to supplying the Shaoguan region and the wider province, the product is also distributed to Hong Kong, where it has received widespread praise from consumers. The product is currently in high demand. Major farms producing NanShui Triangle Bream include Ruyuan Xinxin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., Ruyuan NanShui Fishery Development Co., Ltd., and Ruyuan Xinyaoxi Aquaculture Professional Cooperative.
