Legend has it that Huang Sanguai from Xiabao, Xingning County, opened a traditional Chinese medicine shop in Huokou Market, Xingning County, in 1686. He received a secret prescription from an experienced TCM doctor from Wuhua, which involved grinding more than ten types of Chinese medicinal herbs into powder and mixing them with glutinous rice and brown sugar to make the cake.
