Donglu Donkey Meat of Shangdang
Among the famous local delicacies of Changzhi, Donglu Donkey Meat of Shangdang is the most renowned. Originally, Donglu Donkey Meat specifically referred to donkey meat cooked in a clay pot, and it got its name because the preparation method originated in the lunar month of La (the 12th month of the Chinese calendar). It uses fresh donkey meat as the main ingredient, along with various spices and seasonings, and the preparation process is extremely meticulous. With its bright color and rich, savory flavor, this delicacy has captivated food connoisseurs and enjoys a great reputation throughout history. The connective tissue between the muscle fibers of donkey meat is not very developed, which is why there is a saying: “Dragon meat in heaven, donkey meat on earth.” Donglu Donkey Meat of Shangdang is highly nutritious, making it an ideal high-protein, low-fat food. At the same time, it can aid digestion, promote blood circulation, and serves as a tonic for those suffering from spleen deficiency, kidney weakness, or anemia. By the time of the Jiaqing Emperor during the Qing Dynasty, Donglu Donkey Meat had already gained fame across the country and was served as an imperial tribute. During the national cooked meat products evaluation in the 1980s, Donglu Donkey Meat received praise from attendees. In addition, there are other local specialties such as Zhangzi Stir-fried Pancakes, Lucheng Flaky Pancakes, Changzhi Three-Harmony Noodles, Xiangyuan Meat Soup with Vegetarian Dumplings, Crispy Fire Buns, Glutinous Rice Balls, and Soft Rice Cakes, Huguan Mutton Soup, Qinxian Dried Flatbread, Wuxiang Date Cake, and more.
