Lian Du Goat
The Fengkai Lian Du Goat refers to goats that are free-range on the local limestone mountains and mainly feed on tree leaves, making them nearly wild. Fengkai County is a national geological park, featuring a concentration of three major geological landforms—limestone, sand shale, and granite—that create distinctive natural landscapes such as massive rocks, rugged peaks, secluded caves, beautiful waters, and more. Local farmers let the goats roam freely on the rocky hills, ascending at sunrise and descending at sunset. Raised entirely in nature and relying on the unique mountain stone and plant resources of Fengkai County, these goats are nurtured by the essence of sunlight and the vitality of the stony terrain, resulting in vibrant and robust Lian Du Goats—truly nearly wild. Due to their constant leaping and climbing, their meat is especially firm and delicate. Feeding exclusively on leaves and plants, their meat is free from any gamy or off-putting odors, making it another premium choice among lamb varieties.
The Lian Du Goat is one of the top ten renowned agricultural products of Fengkai County. It is celebrated for being produced in the mountainous areas of Lian Du Town and for its delicious, non-gamy meat. With Lian Du Town as the core breeding center, the production area has gradually expanded outward. Towns rich in rocky resources such as Hekou, Jinzhuang, Duping, Dayukou, and Dazhou are also progressively developing goat farming. Currently, the county’s total goat population is around 30,000. The meat of this goat is considered a warming tonic food—nourishing without causing excessive internal heat—and offers benefits such as nourishing yin, enriching kidneys, invigorating blood, and beautifying skin. It is a flavorful, aromatic, wild-tasting health food beloved by many and holds great potential for further development and market expansion.
