　　Aloe juice is the liquid extracted from aloe vera. The Chinese character “芦” (lú) means black, while “荟” (huì) means to gather. The yellowish-brown juice that drips from the cut leaves of the aloe vera plant turns black upon oxidation when exposed to air and then coagulates into a single mass, hence the name “aloe.” The Xinhua Dictionary defines aloe as: “A perennial evergreen herbaceous plant (Aloe vera var. chinensis). It has large, thick, basal, clustered, narrowly lanceolate leaves, yellow flowers or those with reddish spots, and is commonly found in tropical regions. Also known as ‘oil onion.’ Its leaf edges have sharp serrations, its flowers resemble spikes, and its leaf juice can be used medicinally.”
