Yangcheng Meat Can
Yangcheng Meat Can, a specialty of Shanxi Province, is a distinctive local snack. It is made by stewing pork, beef, or mutton along with millet and various seasonings using a unique cooking process. The result is a richly aromatic dish with tender, melt-in-your-mouth meat that boasts a pure and savory flavor.
Specialty ingredients: 500g of lamb (fat and lean), 100g of millet, 5g of salt, 15g of cooking wine
1. Cut the lamb into about 2 cm cubes, place them in the can, and fill it to about two-thirds full.
2. Then add water until it covers the meat by approximately 3.3 cm, and close the lid tightly.
3. Fill four-fifths of the space inside the lid with water, and place washed millet on top.
4. Place the can over a low flame to let it simmer slowly.
5. When the millet inside the lid is fully cooked and soft, the meat inside the can will also be perfectly tender.
Specialty benefits: Pork is sweet, salty, and mild in nature, and is rich in protein, fat, carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and other nutrients. As a staple in daily diets, pork helps to nourish the body, strengthen the constitution, moisturize dryness, and enrich the skin and muscles. It is an ideal nutritional supplement for those recovering from illness, postpartum women experiencing blood deficiency, or anyone with a pale complexion and thin build.
Mutton not only helps to ward off wind and cold but also nourishes the body. It is effective in treating common symptoms such as cold-induced coughs, chronic bronchitis, deficient-cold asthma, kidney deficiency and impotence, abdominal cold pain, physical weakness due to cold, soreness in the lower back and knees, a pale and emaciated appearance, qi and blood deficiency, and overall debility after illness or childbirth. As a warming food especially suited for winter consumption, it is widely regarded as a winter tonic and is highly favored by many.
