“Five-Petal Core” Codonopsis
Lingchuan County is the genuine producing area of “Lu Codonopsis,” known for its high-quality output. Among Lu Codonopsis varieties, the “Five-Petal Core” from Huangsongbei in Lingchuan County is the most renowned. As the local saying goes: “A thousand-pound or ten-thousand-pound codonopsis root is no match for a single ‘Five-Petal Core’ from Huangsongbei.” The sugar content and medicinal value of the “Five-Petal Core” are one to one-and-a-half times higher than those of ordinary codonopsis. It is rich in oil, has ample starchiness, contains no residue, and remains consistently soft in texture.
The “Five-Petal Core” Codonopsis from Lingchuan is sold in more than ten provinces and cities, including Henan, Hebei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Hunan. It is also exported to over ten countries such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, and Laos. The county’s total codonopsis cultivation area spans 20,000 mu, with an annual yield of up to 1.5 million kilograms. In October 2004, our county’s GAP-certified codonopsis base became the first in China to pass the on-site inspection by the National Medical Products Administration.
