Dongze White Lotus
Dongze White Lotus
Dongze White Lotus. The lotus roots are fine-textured and full of holes, which is why there’s a saying: “Wenxi lotus roots — full of eyes.”
Lotus roots originated in India and were introduced to China very early on. By the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, their cultivation had become quite widespread. Lotus roots are slightly sweet and crisp, suitable for eating raw or cooking, and they also hold high medicinal value. Every part of the plant — its roots, leaves, flowers, and fruits — is a treasure that can be used for nourishment and medicine. Lotus root powder can aid digestion, relieve diarrhea, stimulate appetite, clear heat, nourish the body, and help prevent internal bleeding. It is an excellent liquid food and tonic for women, children, the elderly, and those who are weak or often ill. During the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty, it was designated as an imperial tribute.
