Qinglong Goji Berries
Qinglong goji berries are a specialty of Qinglong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. Qinglong goji berries are large in size, bright red in color, thick-fleshed, soft in texture, low in seeds, and sweet in taste.
Qinglong is a mountainous county located in the eastern section of the Yanshan Mountain Range in Hebei Province. Its unique geographical location and mountain microclimate create distinctive environmental conditions such as large diurnal temperature variations, long hours of sunlight, and minimal pollution. Coupled with its high-quality slightly acidic soil, the area has become a cradle for over 450 species of wild Chinese medicinal herbs. In the mid-1970s, farmers in Qiuzhangzi Village began artificially cultivating and domesticating the local wild variety of goji berries. The resulting berries are characterized by small seeds, abundant flesh, low sugar content, and high medicinal value, offering superior quality compared to those from Ningxia. They have gradually gained favor among an increasing number of consumers.
To date, the total cultivated area of goji berries in the county has reached 22,000 mu. A hundred-mile-long goji corridor has been established in areas such as Mutoudeng Town, Gangu, Dawulan, and Fenghuang Mountain, making it the main goji-producing region in Qinhuangdao City. The products are mainly exported to Southeast Asian regions including Japan and South Korea.
