Zunhua Chestnuts
Zunhua City has 36,700 hectares of fruit orchards, with an annual yield of 220,000 tons. The area dedicated to dry fruit cultivation is 19,570 hectares, of which chestnut orchards cover 20,000 hectares. A 100-li-long chestnut forest belt stretching from east to west has been established across ten northern townships. Currently, the city has 2,000 hectares of young chestnut trees and 16,000 hectares of mature chestnut trees, with a total chestnut production of 12,270 tons. In 2001, Zunhua was designated as a “High-Quality Chestnut Production Base” by the provincial forestry bureau and recognized as the “Hometown of Chinese Chestnuts” by the National Forestry Bureau.
The “Jingdong Chestnuts” produced in Zunhua are renowned both domestically and internationally for their small size, delicate flesh, easily removable bitter skin, high sugar content, glutinous texture, and rich aroma. Zunhua chestnuts have been registered as a trademark with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. They won a gold award at the 1994 National Famous, Special, and High-Quality Products Expo, were consecutively named provincial famous and high-quality products after 1997, and were certified as branded products at the 1999 China International Agricultural Expo.
