Yishui Fenggao

Yishui Fenggao has a history of over a hundred years and is a unique creation of the people in Yishui, Linyi. Made through special craftsmanship, scientific formulation, and careful processing, it boasts an aroma reminiscent of rice flowers and offers a delicious taste that is fragrant, sweet, crispy, and flaky. When the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the people of Yishui make Fenggao to celebrate the harvest season. “Fenggao, Fenggao – a symbol of a bountiful harvest.” Yishui Fenggao is made primarily from high-quality glutinous rice and japonica rice flour, with refined white sugar and premium peanut oil as key ingredients, along with additional components such as locust flower honey and candied fruits. It contains a wealth of essential nutrients including fatty alcohols, proteins, and amino acids. The product is not only popular in the Yimeng Mountain region but also highly favored by consumers in Qingdao, Jinan, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and other areas.

Every Mid-Autumn Festival, the people of Yishui not only use mooncakes to signify family reunion and happiness, but also prepare specially made Fenggao to wish for a bountiful harvest and good fortune. As a result, when the festival draws near, younger generations buy mooncakes and also purchase some Fenggao to give to their elders as a sign of respect. Elders, in turn, hold Fenggao in very high regard. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, it’s acceptable to skip chicken, fish, meat, or eggs, but going without Fenggao leaves a lasting sense of dissatisfaction. The deep affection the people of Yishui have for Fenggao stems from their strong emphasis on the harvest. Even during the tough times of the old society, they would save some grains and rice from their own meals so that, come the Mid-Autumn Festival, they could make Fenggao in hopes of a prosperous year.
