Youyicun Steamed Buns
“Youyicun” originated in 1890, originally named “Youyicun,” and was a steamed bun shop run by a family surnamed Gu from Dezhou. As descendants of the Gu family repeatedly studied the craft at the Goubuli Steamed Bun Shop, County Magistrate Tang Yefeng, inspired by the ancient poem line “Amid willows dark and flowers bright, there’s another village in sight,” and playing on the similar sound of “Youyicun” (有益村), gave it the name “Tianjin Goubuli Branch – Youyicun Steamed Bun Shop.” While inheriting the traditional craftsmanship of Goubuli buns, Youyicun has continuously improved and developed its own style. A poem praises them: “Hard to gulp down but easy to taste, each round bun holds flavors in its embrace. Don’t scorn the tough outside—inside’s not hollowed out; beware hot steam when holding, lest soup spills about.” In 2004, it was awarded the title of “Famous Snack of Shandong.” You can try them at various breakfast stalls in Dezhou, typically around 10 yuan per steamer.
