Xuanhua Gagaga Jujube

Xuanhua Gagaga Jujube is a specialty of Chenjiazhuang Village, Hezixi Township, Xuanhua District, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. The Gagaga Jujube, also known as Gagaga Jujube, Bottle Gourd Jujube, Gagaga Jujube, Crisp You Jujube, or Horse Tooth Jujube, is small in size with an elongated bottle-gourd shape, very similar to the children's toy called "gagaga." With small ends and a larger middle, it is thus named Gagaga Jujube.

Xuanhua Guangming Farm, located in northwestern Hebei Province at 115°02′ east longitude and 40°34′ north latitude, sits at an altitude of 630 meters. With an average annual temperature of 7.8°C, a minimum temperature as low as -25.7°C, effective accumulated temperature ≥10°C of 1,600–2,200°C, annual rainfall of 226.3–430 mm, annual sunshine hours of 3,000 hours, and a frost-free period of 123 days, the farm provides optimal natural conditions for the growth of Gagaga Jujube. Covering an area of over 200 acres, the farm has more than 10,000 jujube and Gagaga jujube trees, producing 100,000–200,000 pounds of fresh jujubes annually. It is the only large-scale high-quality Gagaga Jujube production base in Zhang-Xuan, specializing in the production and sale of Gagaga Jujube. The Gagaga Jujubes produced here are a specialty of Xuanhua, ripening and coming to market from early September to mid-October, coinciding with the two major holidays of Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. The jujubes are plump, brightly colored, larger in size compared to other varieties, with tender flesh, sweet taste, and are considered top-grade among jujubes—making them an excellent gift for family and friends. The base is large-scale with high yield, ensuring ample supply, and is conveniently located near the Beijing-Zhangjiakou, Xuan-Da, and Zhang-Shi expressways, offering great transportation access and significant business potential.

Full name of the Gagaga (pronounced: gaga) Jujube variety:

Also known as Gagaga Jujube, Bottle Gourd Jujube, Gagaga Jujube, Crisp You Jujube, or Horse Tooth Jujube. The fruit is small with an elongated bottle-gourd shape, very similar to the children's toy called "gagaga," with small ends and a larger middle, hence the name Gagaga Jujube.

  Characteristics of Gagaga Jujube:

One of the standout features of Gagaga Jujube is its distinctive shape—with small ends and a larger middle, closely resembling the children's toy "gagaga," which is also the origin of its name. Second is its sweet and crisp taste, coupled with a smooth skin, thin rind, thick flesh, tender and crispy texture, and abundant juice, making it of premium quality and ideal for fresh consumption. In 2008, it was recommended as a fruit for the Olympic Games. Third is its rich nutrition. The Book of Songs records “In the eighth month, pick the jujubes; in the tenth month, harvest the rice.” Han Dynasty bronze mirrors are inscribed with the verse “Immortals above know not age, thirsty they drink from Ritual Spring, hungry they eat jujubes,” showing that the ancients had long recognized the nutritional and medicinal value of jujubes. Fresh Gagaga Jujubes have an edible rate of 94.7%, total sugar content of 24.5%, and Vc content of 315.52 mg/100g.

  Pharmacological effects of Gagaga Jujube:

Gagaga Jujube has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years, primarily for treating symptoms such as insufficient central qi, spleen-stomach weakness, physical fatigue, poor appetite and loose stools, blood deficiency and sallow complexion, and women’s visceral agitation. Recent pharmacological studies have found that jujubes contain various bioactive substances, such as jujube polysaccharides, flavonoids, saponins, triterpenes, alkaloids, cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), all of which offer various health benefits and therapeutic effects for the human body.
