　　Jiangxi Province is home to eight indigenous pig breeds, with Jiujiang’s Xiushui Hang Pig and Binhu Black Pig accounting for two of them. Among these, the Xiushui Hang Pig is a unique local breed resource in our city. Recently, good news came from the Ministry of Agriculture: the “Xiushui Hang Pig,” applied for by the Xiushui County Hang Pig Original Breed Farm, has, in accordance with the "Administrative Measures for Geographical Indications of Agricultural Products," passed preliminary review, expert evaluation, and public announcement. It meets the registration procedures and conditions for geographical indications of agricultural products, and has been awarded the People's Republic of China Geographical Indication Agricultural Product Registration Certificate (origin protection). The designated protected area includes four townships in Xiushui County: Xigang Town, Shanghang Township, Ma'ao Town, and Hangkou Town. Jiujiang City boasts relatively rich livestock and poultry breed resources, such as Duchang Miniature Pig, Binhu Buffalo, Xiushui Black Chicken, Wuning Yellow Goat, and Yongxiu Water Duck. In recent years, while focusing on clean production practices in livestock and poultry, vigorously promoting standardized breeding demonstration projects, and rapidly advancing modern animal husbandry, the city’s agricultural departments have also paid close attention to the protection and registration of geographical indications for agricultural products. Especially after the establishment of the Municipal Agricultural Product Monitoring Center, a series of measures have been introduced, along with extensive training and publicity efforts. Moving forward, our city’s animal husbandry, plant protection, market information, and other departments will collaborate more closely, forming a united force to fully tap into and utilize high-quality local animal and plant breed resources, bringing benefits to the people of Jiujiang and promoting economic development.

　　Geographic Scope

　　The Xiushui Hang Pig originates from Xiushui County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It developed in the upper reaches of the Xiushui River, where the terrain is relatively flat, surrounded by the Mufu Mountain Range to the northwest and the Jiuling Mountain Range to the southeast. The production area of the Xiushui Hang Pig lies between 113°57′41″ to 114°55′48″ east longitude and 28°42′09″ to 29°21′36″ north latitude, at an altitude ranging from 215 to 682 meters. The protected area spans 31,580 hectares and includes four townships: Xigang Town, Shanghang Township, Ma'ao Town, and Hangkou Town. The annual production scale is 50,000 pigs, with an output of 5,000 tons per year.
