Category: Fruit Product Name: Shangrao Early Pear Registration Certificate No.: AGI01109 Ministry of Agriculture Announcement No./Date: No. 1925 (April 15, 2013) Brief Introduction to Cultural History The Shangrao Early Pear features large, well-shaped fruits that are round or nearly round, with smooth green skin. The flesh is tender, juicy with little residue, sweet and moderately acidic, and crisp and delicious. The Shangrao Early Pear is a renowned local pear variety in China. According to the "Shangrao County Annals," "the people of the county have been cultivating pears for over 300 years," and "the Shangrao Early Pear can rival the Xuan Cheng and Yu Shan Xian pears." The "Shangrao Agricultural Annals" record that "in the 23rd year of the Kangxi reign (1684), the 'Shangrao County Annals' stated, 'Pears are now widely planted, and although their flavor may not match those of Xuan Cheng (Anhui), they are comparable to the Yu Shan Qing Xian pears.'" The "Guangxin Prefecture Annals" briefly mention in the products section, "The Yu Shan Qing Xian pear is quite sweet and crisp, and recently the Shangrao Early Pear has also been quite good." The compilation of the "Guangxin Prefecture Annals" began in the 12th year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1873 AD), indicating that the cultivation of the Shangrao Early Pear has a history of at least 300 years. During the harvest season each year, fruit vendors from all over the country flock to Shangrao, where the Shangrao Early Pear is in high demand and enjoys fame across the nation.

The Shangrao "Early Pear" is produced in areas such as Tiandun, Huating Town, Yingjia, and Zunjiao Township in Shangrao County, with the best quality coming from Songjia in Fengling and Chentuanfan. The pears are large with thin skins, white and smooth, tender flesh, juicy with little residue, sweet with a slight acidity, and crisp and delicious. When peeled or cut, the pears do not turn yellow overnight. They were recommended as tribute during the Qing Jiaqing era. They have benefits such as promoting saliva production, moistening the lungs, clearing heat, resolving phlegm, and relieving summer heat, making them an excellent summer fruit and the prime ingredient for the traditional Chinese medicine "Pear Syrup." Both the Qing-era "Guangxin Prefecture Annals" and "Shangrao County Annals" document this. With over 300 years of cultivation history, continuous optimization has led to the development of two superior varieties: "Yellow Skin Xian" and "June Snow." The fruits ripen and come to market in mid to late June, hence the name "Early Pear." In 1997, the Shangrao Early Pear was awarded the title of "High-Quality Early Ripening Pear" by the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1999, it was designated as a "Long-Term Exhibited High-Quality Agricultural Product" at the Kunming World Expo.
