The Bamboo Pole Yam was developed during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty by cultivating wild yam from Qiaotou Mountain in the county on the alluvial plains along both banks of the Gan River over approximately 500 years. It is unique to Taihe County in China.

The Bamboo Pole Yam typically measures 40–70 centimeters in length and weighs 150–500 grams. It is named for its resemblance to a bamboo pole. It is rich in starch and sugars, as well as protein, vitamins, and mineral elements, making it highly nutritious, crisp and delicious—suitable for all ages. Due to its mild nature and sweet taste, it benefits the spleen and stomach, nourishes the lungs and kidneys, helps counter greasiness, and aids digestion. It is used medicinally to treat conditions such as spleen-deficiency diarrhea, diabetes, spermatorrhea, and leukorrhea.
