Cixi Grapes
Cixi Grapes is a geographical indication certification trademark.
Cixi Grapes is a product with a geographical indication for agricultural products.
Located on the southern bank of the world-famous Hangzhou Bay Cross-sea Bridge in Xinpu Town, Cixi, Zhejiang (exit at Hangzhou Bay Development Zone, Shenhai Expressway), grape cultivation here has a history of over forty years. The Liyang-brand Kyoho and Golden Queen grapes from Nantang Village in Liutang are particularly renowned, having won national gold awards in grape competitions. The soil here is rich and fertile, formed by the accumulation of nutrient-rich silt deposited by the Yangtze River and land reclamation. Farmers also have many years of experience in grape cultivation. In summer, while other places swelter under the blazing sun, this area remains shaded and cool. By July and August, when the grapes ripen, the whole village is filled with the rich, sweet aroma of the fruit. The grapes are as green as jade and as purple as agate, attracting a constant stream of visitors. Nowadays, greenhouse cultivation is widely promoted, which results in less pollution, larger berries, and even richer flavors. New varieties are constantly emerging. The main growing area centers around Nantang in Liutang, Xinpu, with nearby planting bases in Sizao Port, Chongshou, and the “Ten-Thousand-Mu Farm.” The annual Cixi Grape Festival is held in Nantang Village, Liutang, Cixi. According to news from the National Forestry Administration’s official website on July 7, the “Cixi Grapes” trademark has recently been officially approved and registered by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce as a geographical indication certification trademark for agricultural products. This follows the successful registration of the “Cixi Bayberries” certification trademark and marks another achievement in the city’s agricultural sector. It is reported that the registrant of the “Cixi Grapes” geographical indication certification trademark is the Cixi Grape Association. The exclusive right to use the trademark is valid from February 21, 2010, to February 20, 2020. Currently, the planted area of grapes in Cixi has reached 33,000 mu, with 23,000 mu under production this year, yielding an annual output of 25,000 tons. The successful registration of the “Cixi Grapes” geographical indication certification trademark will play an important role in enhancing the competitiveness of local “famous, special, and high-quality” products, developing distinctive agricultural and sideline industries, and increasing farmers’ incomes.
