Yan-Zhao Great Wall: The 1688 edition of the *Da County Annals · Historical Sites* states, “The ruins of the Great Wall are located at Guang’an Town in the southwest of the county, where there is an earthen mound, said to be part of the Great Wall built by Emperor Qin Shi Huang.” The section on river embankments in the annals also mentions, “An ancient dike stretches from Mitidi Village in this jurisdiction to Hancun in Wen’an County, undulating intermittently over fifty li. It is referred to by some as the ‘Great Wall Dike’ and by others as the ‘City Defense Dike.’?... It is believed to have been constructed...” The historical records are not entirely accurate. According to *A Comprehensive Survey of China’s Ancient Great Walls* and related local research, the so-called “Great Wall Dike” or “defense dike” refers to sections of both the Yan and Zhao states’ great walls.

Introduction to Geothermal Energy in Gu'an, Langfang Gu'an County boasts abundant geothermal resources, especially in the Niutuo Town Uplift, which runs across the southern part of the county. Below two thousand meters, there is an area of 100 square kilometers where hot water with temperatures ranging from 50 to 100°C can be found. The total volume of stored hot water reaches 1.3 billion cubic meters, with 270 million cubic meters available for direct extraction. In terms of thermal energy, this is equivalent to 58 million tons of coal. Within this geothermal field, drilling nine self-flowing wells simultaneously yields a daily output of 2,000 cubic meters per well, with a usable lifespan of 40 years. Compared to other geothermal fields such as the Paris Basin in France, Akita Prefecture in Japan, and Beijing's Xiaotangshan in China, Gu'an’s geothermal resources are shallower, have a higher temperature gradient, and boast better water quality. The Niutuo Town Uplift is classified as one of the best high-quality geothermal fields in China and also holds significant medical value. To date, five geothermal wells have been drilled: Well Bao 25, located 25 kilometers south of Gu'an County and about 2 kilometers southeast of Duliuxiang Township, is currently developed and utilized by the Beijing Chaoyang District Floriculture Company; Well Bao 8, situated 30 kilometers within Gu'an County, 900 meters east of the Gu'ma Highway, at the western entrance of Xinfangzi Village in Mazhuang Town, has been sealed and is awaiting development.

The Sanhe Grand Canyon is located northeast of Lingshan in Sanhe, facing Kelou Ridge and stretching eastward to Jiangfushan. Within its two-kilometer-long expanse, the canyon features steep cliffs, crisscrossing ravines, and rugged rocks. Known locally as Longtan Gully due to the presence of Dragon Pool in the valley, the canyon boasts three naturally formed pools running from west to east, untouched by human hands. Among them, the third pool is particularly stunning, spanning about 30 square meters with its deep, mysterious, crystal-clear waters. Lush vegetation and blooming wildflowers surround the three pools, while a refreshing breeze and a light mist create a serene atmosphere. Legend has it that during the Qing Dynasty’s Kangxi era, when a severe drought struck, Peng Ming, the then-county magistrate of Sanhe, prayed for rain at the pools to ensure a bountiful harvest for the local people — a story still widely told today.
