0 Master Pagoda 0 Master Pagoda is located in Hongni Village, Hongtiguan Township, about 35 kilometers east of the county seat. The village is small and surrounded by mountains on all sides. The pagoda was built on the ruins of Haihui Temple at the foot of the reddish-brown Zifeng Mountain. On the back of the pagoda is an inscription carved in the third year of Changxing during the Later Tang Dynasty of the Five Dynasties (929), recording an anecdote about 0 Master. It says that in the fourth year of Qianfu during the Tang Dynasty (887), when he was the abbot of Haihui Temple, someone reported that Baoguang was planning to kill him. The master said, “I have long been unafraid of life and death; if I am executed, I will simply be repaying an old karmic debt.” Sure enough, on the thirteenth day of the first lunar month that year, he was killed. Later, his disciples Chongzhao and others enshrined his relics and, under the decree of the Luzhou military governor, built this pagoda. It is over ten feet tall, square-shaped, with a single-eave five-tiered four-slope roof and a stupa-style pointed spire. The pagoda body features carvings of Vajra figures with well-defined muscles, strong and powerful, along with lively dancing performers. The four sides are decorated with engraved scrolling floral patterns, simple yet elegant, solemn and beautiful. In 1965, it was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit.

Xiwenzheng Village boasts beautiful scenery and pleasant views in all seasons. To the south, you can gaze at the “Emerald Arch of Xingwu”; to the north, the “Graceful Deer Terrace” stands proudly. The village is embraced on the east and west sides, hence known as a “mountain-surrounded dwelling.” Established in the late Tang Dynasty, the village preserves a large number of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Eighteen ancient streets from those periods crisscross the area, stretching a total length of 1.5 kilometers. Among them, three Ming Dynasty quadrangle courtyards—“Fragrance Drifting under the Willow,” “Rock Steady and Ever Safe,” and “Upholding the Ancestors’ Legacy”—remain well-preserved to this day. The main houses, wing rooms, and reverse-facing rooms in these courtyards all have attached side chambers, representing the typical Shanxi-style “four large and eight small” residential layout, among which the “Liu Family Residence” is the most renowned. The Liu Family Residence was originally the home of descendants of Liu Zongyuan, a famous literary figure, philosopher, and essayist from Jiezhou Town in Hedong during the Tang Dynasty, historically known as the “Yongzhou Prefect.” It is built on a north-south mountain ridge east of the village. The overall layout and structure of the residence symbolize the meaning of “both wealth and rank,” surrounded by green mountains, lush forests, blooming flowers, offering a fresh and picturesque scene.
