On this day, I chased the sun and the moon* ― Reflections after participating in the Dalian 100km Trail Race By Jiubian, May 1, 2013, at Hongshankou, Haidian At around six in the morning on April 20, 2013, at a seaside square in Dalian, the cold wind was biting and bone-chilling. The Dalian 100km Trail Race was about to begin. Viewing the West Mountain, the sun rose high; the steep Swallow Nest Ridge, where sea and sky met as one; a brief rest at North Bridge, under the blazing sun; atop the mountain behind the Coastal Road, feeling the grandeur of “little heaven under heaven”; along the Coastal Boulevard, running with the wind; at Eighteen Turns, the sun was already setting; returning to North Bridge, the city lights had just begun to glow; in the final 8 kilometers, looking up at the crescent moon while the sounds of the city still echoed in the ears. Fortunately, I reached the finish line before midnight, while some friends welcomed the sunrise of the next day under the starlit sky, having battled through 100 kilometers. I think most people, like me, spent these 24 hours chasing the sun and the moon. As time passed, we ran from morning to noon, from the blazing sun to the slanting evening rays, from daylight to darkness, from the sun to the moon, and then from sunset to dawn. We were chasing the sun and the moon, we were reenacting the myth of Kuafu chasing the sun!
