Wuerqihan National Forest Park is situated within the operational area of the Wuerqihan Forestry Bureau, 100 kilometers from the city center, and spans a forested area of 319 hectares. The untouched primeval forest is rarely frequented by people, with ancient trees reaching skyward. The woods are so dense they blot out the sun, and the region is abundant in natural wildlife and plant resources. Over 500 species of shrubs and various types of vegetation grow beneath Dahurian larch, Scots pine, birch, and poplar trees—including renowned mountain delicacies and medicinal plants such as lingonberries, apricots, hedgehog fungus, wood ear mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, astragalus, and globeflowers. The area is also home to nationally protected animals, earning it the reputation of a “natural zoo.”

Within Wuerqihan Town, the Forestry Bureau has established a “Nature Museum” that houses the most comprehensive collection of animal, plant, and insect specimens in the Greater Khingan Mountains region—2,116 species and 11,921 items in total. Since its opening, the museum has welcomed tens of thousands of domestic and international visitors. Former Autonomous Region leaders Liu Mingzu and Vice Chairman Zhou Weide have inscribed messages here, and former Autonomous Region Chairman Wu Ligii penned the museum’s name.
