Xiaolou Xianyuan is located in Xiaolou Market, 13 kilometers north of Licheng. It is the hometown of He Xiangu, one of the legendary Eight Immortals. The site features historical relics such as the He Xiangu Family Temple, an ancient well, and the coiled dragon ancient vine, hence the name "Xiaolou Xianyuan." According to legend, He Xiangu was a native of Xiaolou in Zengcheng. After attaining immortality, the local villagers built the He Xiangu Family Temple to worship her generation after generation. Devotees from both China and abroad believe in her efficacy, which is why the temple enjoys a constant flow of worshippers. The ancient well within the He Xiangu Family Temple produces crystal-clear spring water. On its tiled roof grows a peach tree known as the “immortal peach,” which requires no watering all year round. Even during droughts, it does not wither and bears fruit annually, fetching a high price. The coiled dragon ancient vine covers an area of over 500 square meters. The ancient vine entwines around an old banyan tree, with lush foliage and dense shade, resembling a dancing dragon—majestic, grand, and colorful. In summer, its white blossoms fill the air with fragrance. According to experts, this ancient vine is the finest in the province and rare in Southeast Asia, earning its reputation as the “millennium ancient vine” across the province, in Southeast Asia, and among compatriots in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and beyond. The number of visitors drawn to see it has been increasing steadily. Coincidentally, surrounding the ancient vine are also a century-old longan tree and a “hugging tree” (as it is commonly called), which grow together to form a pair of sister trees facing the ancient vine.
