Gualv Square

Located in the commercial center of Licheng Subdistrict, the square sits on a site historically known as "Xiyuan," according to records such as the Zengcheng County Annals. It is the home of the world-renowned "Zengcheng Gualv" lychee tree.

Gualv is a premium variety of lychee, highly praised by literati and scholars throughout history. The Qing Dynasty scholar Chen Ding wrote in his 1780 book, The Lychee Record: “Its texture is crisp like a pear, and its juice cannot be seen. Even when shelled and held, it remains unchanged for three days.” The poet Li Fengxiu once wrote: “Lychees grow everywhere in the southern regions, but Zengcheng Gualv is as precious as pearls. Even with great wealth, they’re hard to obtain—it’s not yet May, and they’re not yet on the table.” Today, Zengcheng Gualv has become a symbol of the city. The original "Xiyuan Gualv" mother tree is over 400 years old. Now centered around this mother tree, the area has been developed into an iconic urban square—“Gualv Square.” The square integrates leisure, commerce, and entertainment, making it a great destination for relaxation and fun.
