Xiaolou Human Village
Xiaolou Human Village is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.
The Xiaolou Human Village scenic area is an eco-agricultural tourism destination that combines pastoral landscapes, rural customs, and religious culture. Covering a total area of approximately 20,000 mu, it serves as the gateway to the 888-square-kilometer Southern Countryside Grand Park in northern Zengcheng. Located just three kilometers from the under-construction exit of the Guangzhou-Hezhou Expressway, it boasts convenient transportation and can effectively attract tourists from the one-hour drive circle of the Pearl River Delta.
Leveraging a solid foundation in urban agriculture such as thousand-mu fishponds and ten-thousand-mu vegetable bases, the Xiaolou Human Village scenic area plans to develop six major recreational themes within three years: the Ancestral Immortal Mountain Lychee Garden themed around lychees; the Octagonal Lake for water recreation; the Baode Ancestral Hall embodying the unity of the three teachings; the Farmhouse Culinary Leisure Center; the Winter Melon and Choy Sum Ten-Thousand-Mu Farming Experience Park; and the Dongxi Jing Old Street for leisure shopping.
The Baode Ancestral Hall is the only building in Lingnan that integrates the three teachings—Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. The entire ancient temple is divided into three parts: the Baode Ancestral Hall, the Cangju Sacred Temple, and the Jinxing Tower. The temple roof is supported by wooden beams, yet not a single iron nail is used throughout the entire structure. Beside it stands a kapok tree, which, along with He Xiangu’s peach and Hanglu (Zengcheng’s famous lychee), is known as one of Zengcheng’s “immortal flower, immortal peach, and immortal fruit.”
Dongjing Village and Xijing Village have a history of about 500 years. The region enjoys well-preserved ecological surroundings, with beautiful mountains, clear waters, and fresh air. The terrain is higher in the north and lower in the south, and the soil is mainly sandy loam, making it highly suitable for growing vegetables, flowers, and landscaping seedlings. Both villages are widely renowned as the “Choy Sum Village” and “Winter Melon Village,” with contiguous winter melon bases covering an area of 8,000 mu.
Here you can find well-preserved ancient villages with Ming-style architecture that reflect Lingnan folk traditions. The buildings are constructed with green bricks, featuring uniform specifications and consistent orientations. There are ancient streets, private schools, village temples (ancestral halls), pagodas (Wenchang Pagoda), and stone bridges that have withstood centuries of wind and rain, yet still retain visible historic traces.
