Yanta Park

The Zengjiang Yanta is the only ancient pagoda remaining in Zengcheng City and is a municipal-level cultural heritage site under the protection of Guangzhou. Built in the second year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty (1574), it is located on Zhishan Mountain, about 2 kilometers south of Licheng Town (now on the left side of the Zengtan Highway), adjacent to the shimmering waters of the Zengjiang River.

The Yanta boasts a grand and magnificent structure with an exquisitely intricate design, built entirely from red stone. It appears to have seven stories externally but is divided into thirteen levels internally. Standing 32 meters tall, visitors can climb directly from the ground floor to the top. The pagoda has an octagonal prism shape, with windows on each level, oriented toward the east, south, west, north, southeast, southwest, northeast, and northwest directions. It also includes brackets and open corridors that allow for panoramic views of the surrounding scenery. Atop the pagoda sits a massive magnetic jar used as decoration, shining brilliantly and reflecting gloriously into the sky. The jar is adorned with eight iron chains shaped like golden dragons, and from the neck of each dragon hangs a string of iron bells attached to a colorful phoenix and a wind chime. In ancient times, when boats passed along the river, approaching from a distance, passengers looking up at the pagoda’s summit would see what appeared to be dancing dragons and phoenixes, glittering brilliantly in the sunlight.
