Ancient Sea Relics

Ancient Sea Relics is located in Qunxing Village, Xintang Town, formerly known as Shixiang. Here, there are massive rocks jutting out of the ground, with a cave formed between two of them. The cave is

2.5 meters high and 20 meters long, and walking through it feels like strolling down a narrow alley—hence the name "Shixiang" (Stone Alley).

According to expert research, the Ancient Sea Relics in Xintang is the largest marine erosion cave site discovered so far on the Chinese mainland. Experts believe that Shixiang was once a small hill composed of red sandstone and conglomerate over 70 million years ago. About 2,000 years ago, the area around the Dongjiang River Delta was still a vast bay. The continuous impact of seawater on the hill eroded the rocks into a narrow passage, forming the marine erosion cave we see today. The Ancient Sea Relics include attractions such as Shixiang, Yishi Temple, Yishi Rock, and the former site of Zhan Ganquan’s Fishing Platform. There are also newly built structures such as the Xintang Customs, Commodity Inspection Bureau, and Plant and Animal Quarantine Office, with skyscrapers standing densely and thousand-ton cargo ships moored along the riverbank, allowing visitors to witness the bustling scene of Xintang Port.
