Zhengguo Buddha Rock

Zhengguo Buddha Rock is located in Zhengguoyang Village, Zhengguo Town. Legend has it that during the Song Dynasty, in Xiangputang Village, Jinniu District, Zengcheng, there was a shepherd boy who, at the age of 8, enjoyed discussing Buddhist and Taoist teachings and was naturally kind-hearted. Later, he became a monk at Mingshan Temple. In the first year of the Huangyou era of the Northern Song Dynasty, he passed away while sitting in meditation on a rock in Ruishan. His disciples then enshrined his physical body as a statue, naming him Bin Gong Buddha, also known as Cowboy Buddha. The place where Cowboy Buddha attained nirvana is called Buddha Rock.

Every year on the ninth day of the fifth lunar month, the grand birthday celebration of the Buddha attracts bustling crowds throughout Zhengguo Market and nearby villages.
