Gufengyuan Tourism Resort
Just a 40-minute drive east along Guangzhou–Shanwei Highway from the bustling downtown of Guangzhou, you’ll arrive at a natural oxygen bar surrounded by beautiful mountains and clear waters—Gufengyuan.
Covering an area of over 3,000 acres, Gufengyuan is located in Jiulou Village, Zhenlong Town, Zengcheng City. The resort is embraced by rolling hills, adjacent to lakes, and features vast forested areas, offering fresh air and a pleasant climate. In spring, the trees are lush green and mountain flowers bloom vibrantly; in summer, lotus leaves spread as far as the eye can see accompanied by the whisper of pine winds; in autumn, the red foliage is splendid and fruits hang abundantly; in winter, flocks of migratory birds gather amid curling smoke from kitchen chimneys... Every season here fills your heart with joy and makes you linger without wanting to leave.
Live in Nature
Nestled in the mountains of Gufengyuan are luxurious resort villas and charming pine forest cabins. Draw back the curtains and the full-length floor-to-ceiling windows frame a breathtaking painting—nature itself. Dive into the oval-shaped pool in front of your room, embraced by green hills, with white clouds leisurely drifting above and birdsongs echoing around. Your heart will gradually become as clear as the sky. When tired, change into casual clothes, enjoy tea, go fishing, or cruise on the lake. You can think about everything—or nothing at all.
As night falls, the stars twinkle, a cool breeze blows, a bright moon sways over the lotus pond, couples whisper by the lakeside, friends gather in the moon-viewing pavilion to drink and sing, while children chase fireflies, excitedly singing “There are so many stars in the sky, counting them is just impossible...”
Natural Fruit and Melon Garden
Gufengyuan has carefully cultivated nearly ten thousand fruit trees of various varieties. Thanks to the excellent soil and water conditions, the fruits here are especially large, fragrant, and sweet. During harvest seasons, the branches are weighed down with tempting fruits. From May to July there are lychees, from July to August longans, and from September to October Taiwanese pomegranates, green jujubes, and star fruits. Throughout the year, you can also find black and white olives, mangoes, and more. If you visit at the right time, fresh fruits may be served daily in your room. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even join the hosts in picking fruits straight from the orchard—the taste is even better.
If visitors wish, not only fruits but also all the vegetables here can be picked by yourself. You can even plant seeds under the guidance of the hosts, water and fertilize them, and the hosts will help take care of them. Come back after some time, and you might just get to eat the vegetables you planted yourself.
Tree-Climbing Chickens
Unlike the meticulously cultivated fruits, the chickens here are free-range, with no cages or scheduled feedings. They freely nest and forage in the orchards and fields. No pesticides are used in the orchards, so the plump worms serve as their main food. If you look carefully, you might find freshly laid eggs in the bushes or on the trees—still warm. Crack one open and enjoy—it’s absolutely delicious. The only trouble is that catching these chickens for dinner can be quite a challenge, as they nimbly hop onto trees and dodge you playfully.
The fish are also naturally raised. Once the fingerlings are released, they fend for themselves by eating aquatic plants and microorganisms, surviving on their own. Only the fittest survive, and many of the fish caught are quite large.
The chicken and fish here are a must-try. On the water in the valley, there is an elegant farmhouse restaurant serving home-style dishes—steamed fish, steamed chicken with mushrooms, blanched greens, stir-fried snake gourd with meat... yet every bite bursts with flavor, especially sweet and delicious. Or, you can cook for yourself—barbecues and picnic grills are fully equipped, and the hosts have thoughtfully installed faucets beside each grill. Grilling fish under the shade of trees, with birds soaring above the green hills and waters, offers an experience incomparable to crowded city barbecue spots.
Natural Mineral Water
Gufengyuan boasts not only beautiful mountains but even more beautiful water. The mountain spring water here, tested by specialized water quality inspection agencies, is unpolluted high-quality spring water that can be consumed directly. After a tiring hike in the mountains, cup your hands and scoop up some spring water—it’s sweet and cool, invigorating with the essence of the mountain. It’s truly refreshing.
Every weekend, visitors come with buckets and containers to collect water from the mountain. It’s said that rice porridge or soups cooked with this spring water have a uniquely sweet and clear flavor.
Children’s Fun Park
At Gufengyuan, the happiest are the primary and middle school students. The resort has specially built facilities for them, including a skate park, a swing garden, bamboo raft rides, kite flying, and fireworks. The moment children arrive, they laugh and bounce around joyfully, as if it were a festival. The “Farmhouse Fun” program is an educational and entertaining experience that includes catching loaches, bird watching, butterfly catching, duck herding, grinding grain, fishing, feeding cattle and sheep, plowing fields and planting vegetables, and more. Parents and teachers are delighted to see these usually pampered “little emperors” eagerly and competitively joining in the work. There is also a uniquely designed outdoor training base where children build physical strength, willpower, and a spirit of teamwork through games and competitions like climbing, obstacle courses, and mountain flag captures. These rich activities are not only loved by children, but also attract many adults who join in with enthusiasm, as if reliving their carefree childhood days.
In addition to games and fun, primary and middle school students can also engage in patriotic education at the right time. The original site of Gufengyuan was an important base of activity for the Dongjiang Guerrilla Unit. Countless revolutionaries grew and trained here, fearlessly fighting for their country. Students can pay tribute to the revolutionary martyrs and receive revolutionary tradition education here, helping them establish correct values and morals from an early age.
