Bamboo Sea Corridor

The "Bamboo Sea Corridor" is located in Baihu Village, Zengjiang Street, in the eastern part of Zengcheng City. To the north lies the Lake Heart Island of Zhengguo, to the west it faces the hometown of the legendary fairy He Xiangu in Xiaolou Town across the river, to the east it is embraced by green mountains, and to the south it is only 8 kilometers away from the urban area (the location of Zengcheng Municipal Government). It enjoys an exceptionally strategic location with well-developed transportation infrastructure (a newly built four-lane Zengzheng Highway runs past the village, and the Guangzhou-Zengcheng Expressway is also planned to pass through the village with an exit located within it), making it a prime spot for developing rural eco-tourism.

The "Bamboo Sea Corridor" gets its name from the dense and contiguous growth of bamboos that remain lush and green year-round, creating a vast green ocean when viewed from afar. The corridor stretches over 4 kilometers in total and covers an area of more than 1,000 acres (larger and longer than the bamboo forest in Guangning). To the east of the corridor is a cement-paved scenic avenue; to the west along the river lies a sandy beach, which serves as a natural bathing spot for tens of thousands of people; to the south it is 200 meters away from Zengzheng Highway; and to the north it is 200 meters away from a century-old flying banyan tree. The corridor features a wide variety of bamboo species, mainly tall bamboo, growing densely along the river and known as an emerald green oasis in the upper reaches of the Zengjiang River.

In recent years, the "Bamboo Sea Corridor" in Baihu Village has been effectively protected and developed. With its pristine natural environment, fresh air, and absence of factory pollution, it has achieved harmonious development. Around the Double Ninth Festival each year, as the weather cools, migratory birds from the north begin to arrive one after another, nesting and spending the winter in the bamboo forests of the corridor. Tens of thousands of migratory birds come here for the winter every year, mainly including species such as orioles and sparrows, and occasionally protected national species such as Chinese grosbeaks, red ducks, black-faced spoonbills, and bald eagles can also be spotted. In addition to migratory birds, there is also a significant population of local bird species, such as sparrows, magpies, and egrets. At dawn, hundreds of birds leave their nests and sing in unison, presenting a vibrant scene of birdsong and joy. At dusk, flocks of returning birds bring an aura of serenity as they gracefully fly back into the Bamboo Sea Corridor, creating a harmonious and joyful atmosphere — a true "bird paradise." The Bamboo Sea Corridor remains shaded by green bamboo all year round. The riverside bamboo groves by the water create a delightful contrast with the river, blending sky and water into one, with shimmering waves. From time to time, one can see flocks of birds flying over the river, fishing boats gliding gently, and distant green mountains layering into the horizon, offering a taste of the Little Li River and resembling a heavenly paradise on earth.

In recent years, Zengcheng City has been striving to establish itself as a demonstration zone for integrated urban-rural development, advancing the planning and construction of three major functional zones, launching a parkification strategy, transforming resource advantages into premium resources, vigorously protecting its green mountains and clear waters, and creating a large-scale rural ecological park with distinctive southern Chinese characteristics. With strong support from the municipal Party committee and government, the rural ecological park in Baihu Village came into being, and the "Bamboo Sea Corridor" is a vital component of the grand blueprint for Baihu’s rural ecological park. The park is rich in cultural landscapes and historical sites, including the Beidi Temple built during the Ming Dynasty, the Wenbi Pagoda constructed in the Ming Dynasty, and the ancient ancestral hall of the Yin family from the Qing Dynasty. The ecological environment within the park is well-preserved, featuring numerous scenic spots such as miles of pristine riverside bamboo forests along the Zengjiang River, a century-old lychee orchard, unique black olive trees, and the widely celebrated magical flying banyan tree. Transportation infrastructure in the park has been continuously improved. In the second half of 2008, the Zengcheng municipal government invested over 7 million yuan to pave cement roads in the Bamboo Sea Corridor, build leisure stations, public toilets, bird-watching platforms, and tidal viewing pavilions.
