Tomb of Cui Yuzhi

The Tomb of Cui Yuzhi is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangzhou City.

The Tomb of Cui Yuzhi is located on Huashan in Guanzhuang Village, Fenggang Township, Zhucun Town, Zengcheng City. The original tomb was a large, three-soil slab-built structure in the shape of an armchair, covering an area of 500 square meters. It was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, and the gravestone, stone lions, stone beasts, and ornamental columns were either smashed or removed. The current tomb facade was rebuilt in 1991. The facade is rectangular and divided into three levels, ascending step by step by 0.4 meters, with each level being 16.2 meters wide and varying in depth, totaling 22.3 meters in length. The top level serves as the rear section, where an octagonal cement stele column about 3 meters high stands, inlaid with a large white marble gravestone newly engraved during the tomb garden’s reconstruction. The central inscription on the stele reads: “Tomb of Cui Yuzhi, Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty, Posthumously Honored as Qingxian, Also Known as Lord Jupo”; the upper margin records his birth and death dates, and the bottom bears the four characters “Rebuilt by His Descendants.” In 1984, during a cultural relics survey, a boundary stele from the third year of the Tongzhi era (1864) of the Cui family burial ground was salvaged from a nearby river and re-erected at the front side of the tomb.

Cui Yuzhi (1157–1239), courtesy name Zhengzhi, was a native of Zengcheng. He passed the imperial examination in 1193 during the Shaosheng era. He served as Criminal Justice Commissioner of Guangxi, Secretary Supervisor and Tutor to the Crown Prince, Prefect of Chengdu, and Military Governor of Guangdong as well as Prefect of Guangzhou. After his death, he was posthumously titled Duke of Nanhai and honored with the posthumous name Qingxian. He authored the Collection of Jupo.

Zhucun Subdistrict: Zhucun Subdistrict is located in the central part of Zengcheng City. It lies 14 kilometers east of downtown Zengcheng, 45 kilometers west of Guangzhou, and 100 kilometers south of Shenzhen. Guangzhou-Shanwei Highway runs through the area, providing very convenient transportation. The subdistrict governs an area of 93.9 square kilometers, bordering Licheng to the east, Zhongxin to the west, Xintang and Shitan to the south, and Xiaolou to the north. It administers 12 village committees, 1 residents' committee, a total of 152 villager groups (economic cooperatives), and has a population of 32,959.
