Ancient Chu Court Memorial Archway

The four characters “Ancient Chu Court” are engraved in clerical script on the stone archway. It was built during the Qing Dynasty. “Chu Court” is the earliest known name used for Guangzhou, predating the construction of the Five-Story Tower by Zhu Liangzu in the early Ming Dynasty. Commander Hua Ying built the Jade Mountain Tower and Guanyin Pavilion on Yu Jing Hill. The Jade Mountain Tower has long since disappeared, and the Guanyin Pavilion also fell into ruin long ago. The area around the “Foshan” stone archway on present-day Yu Jing Hill marks the former site of the Guanyin Pavilion.
