Hongcheng Park

Hongcheng Park is located at the eastern end of Ersha Island, covering a total area of 65,998 square meters. It was developed and constructed with an investment of 25 million yuan by Guangzhou City Construction and Development Group Co., Ltd. The project commenced in September 1999 and officially opened to the public in 2000.

Commissioned to the Municipal Landscape Planning and Design Institute, the park’s design primarily adopts a Western style while emphasizing a blend of Eastern and Western elements. A large number of precious and tall tree species native to Lingnan were planted throughout the park, providing ample shade. These are complemented by expansive lawns, rock formations, pavilions, and terraces, making it a green recreational park mainly designed for leisure and entertainment.

In the past, the site of the park was occupied by a seafood restaurant operated by Guangzhou City Construction and Development Group under a cooperative model, which generated considerable economic returns. To support Guangzhou’s initiative of achieving “a small change every year, a medium change every three years,” the company willingly complied with the broader plan. In accordance with the municipal government’s requirements, it voluntarily dismantled the original business operation and independently invested in the construction of Hongcheng Park on Ersha Island. This addition has provided the city with another green space, and it remains to date the first municipal garden supporting project invested in and built by a private enterprise in Guangzhou.
