Guangzhou Museum of the History of the Modern Period

The Guangzhou Museum of the History of the Modern Period is located within the Guangzhou Martyrs' Cemetery. The site was originally the Advisory Bureau from the late Qing Dynasty, built in 1909. It is a Western-style Romanesque parliamentary building—tall, grand, and imposing. Surrounded by tall pine and cypress trees, lush green lawns, and a pleasant landscape, the environment is elegant. In May 1921, Sun Yat-sen swore his oath of office here to assume the position of Extraordinary President of the Republic of China. During the First United Front between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, this place served as the headquarters of the Central Party Department.
