The Tomb of Shi Jianru is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangzhou City.

Shi Jianru Memorial Hall

The Tomb of Shi Jianru is located within Huanghuagang Park. The original burial site was at Qingcaigang on Xianlie Road, built in 1913, and was relocated to its current site in 1978 due to construction needs. The stone plaque above the current tomb’s gatehouse is the original, inscribed with “Shi Jianru Memorial Hall,” with the upper inscription reading “The Second Year of the Republic of China” and the signature “Inscribed by Hu Hanmin.” After passing a three-tier granite platform and stone steps, there stands an upright statue of Shi Jianru. Both the statue and the square stone base are carved from white marble. The front of the base is inscribed with a brief biography of the martyr, ending with “Publicly erected in July, the Second Year of the Republic of China, by Sun Wen and others,” all relocated from the original burial site.

Shi Jianru Memorial Hall

Shi Jianru (1879–1900), originally named Wenwei, was from Panyu (now Guangzhou), Guangdong Province, and a descendant of the national hero Shi Kefa. In 1899, he joined the Revive China Society founded by Sun Yat-sen and engaged in revolutionary activities. In October 1900, to support Zheng Shiliang’s uprising in Sanzhoutian, Huizhou, he attempted to tunnel under and blow up the Viceroy of Liangguang, Deshou, but failed and was unfortunately captured.
