Baiyun Xianguan

Baiyun Xianguan is a cultural tourism attraction.

Baiyun Xianguan is located in Luhu Park. Constructed in the 17th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1812), it covers an area of 5,500 square meters, including a main building with a floor space of 448 square meters and a water surface of 3,700 square meters.

The main building is perched on a hillside by Luhu Road, overlooking Luhu Lake. The hill is edged with marble, featuring five granite stones, each one square meter in size, inscribed with “Baiyun Xianguan, Zou Lu (seal)”. The characters are bold and classic in style.

The stone pillars at the mountain gate bear a couplet: “For thousands of years incense has burned as pilgrims admire the白云 from all sides, while immortal guests linger.” Passing through the courtyard, you enter the main hall. The door pillars hold a wooden couplet: “Since ancient times, white clouds have often graced Pujian Valley; time and again the seas turn to mulberry fields.” The hall pillars also feature a wooden couplet: “After the white clouds clear, birds chase each other joyfully; today’s flowing water and bright moon are the former selves,” signed by Zhao Puchu, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

The Xianguan originally served as a gathering place for literati and artists in Guangzhou. Later, it enshrined Lü Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals, and was managed by Taoist priests. It was renovated and opened to the public after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. During the Cultural Revolution, it suffered damage. In early 1984, the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government allocated funds for its restoration. On September 28, it reopened to the public for visits.

On March 22, 2017, the Sanpu Qinlu of Baiyun Xianguan officially opened. It is a lifestyle space that promotes traditional Chinese refined culture and offers a series of traditional culture courses such as guqin, incense ceremony, tea ceremony, painting, calligraphy, pipa, and more. Sanpu Qinlu also hosts irregular events promoting traditional Chinese culture, such as elegant gatherings, tea ceremonies, and sharing sessions, contributing to the inheritance and promotion of China's traditional culture.
