To make full use of limited space and comprehensively showcase Guangzhou’s river culture, the Donghaozhong Museum extensively employs modern audiovisual and lighting technologies to recreate and exhibit the commercial and cultural prosperity along the waterways. It vividly reproduces the map of the Six Canals from the Song Dynasty, as well as the historical charm and folk culture along Donghaozhong, leaving a deep impression on visitors.

The two-story museum building consists of five exhibition halls. Exhibition Hall 1, “The Origins of Donghao,” showcases how the crisscrossing waterways nourished Guangzhou and influenced the city’s development over more than two thousand years; Exhibition Hall 2, “Commerce Along Donghao,” unfolds a scroll of trade and folk culture on both banks of the canal, allowing visitors to recall the former vibrancy and romance; Exhibition Hall 3, “Dreams of Donghao,” recreates the beautiful moment when Tanka girls rowed boats along the canal, singing saltwater songs and selling fruits; Exhibition Hall 4, “The Crying of Donghao,” displays the polluted state of the canal with its black, smelly sludge and garbage-filled waters; Exhibition Hall 5, “A New Chapter for Donghao,” exhibits the achievements of the canal’s water treatment efforts, with its restored beauty invigorating all who see it.

Take bus routes 11, 54, 80, 184, or 236 to Dadongmen (Yuexiu North Road) Station, then walk 50 meters to reach the museum. Alternatively, take Metro to Nongjiaosuo Station, exit at B, and walk approximately 490 meters.
