The Former Headquarters of the "March 29th" Uprising in Guangzhou, located at No. 5 (now changed to No. 15) Xiaodongying, Yuehua Road, in the central area of Guangzhou, was the overall command center used by revolutionaries under the leadership of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 1911 for their decisive battle to overthrow the Qing Dynasty. Dr. Sun Yat-sen spoke highly of this uprising: “Blood was shed across the land, heroic spirit filled the air, trees and grass wept in sorrow, wind and clouds changed color. The long-suppressed hearts of the people throughout the nation were greatly stirred. The accumulated fury surged like a raging torrent that could not be contained. Within half a year, the great revolution in Wuchang succeeded. Thus, the value of this campaign is truly earth-shaking and soul-stirring, and it will live on forever alongside the Wuchang Revolution!”

The building is a large, north-facing, blue-brick house, originally the residence of a Qing official known as “Chaoyi Mansion.” It has four courtyards and three bays, is single-story, with a double-slope roof covered in plain tiles, and features a typical Lingnan-style bamboo-barred door at the entrance. Each courtyard within the compound is separated by a skywell and garden, all designed in the typical residential architectural style of late Qing-era Lingnan. In the 1920s, the house was purchased by Mr. Li Zhangda, a member of the Tongmenghui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance). After Mr. Li Zhangda passed away in 1953, his wife, Madam Yin Yingxue, and son, Li Songgang, donated the property to the state in 1955 in accordance with his wishes. Zhu Guang, then Mayor of Guangzhou, personally oversaw and approved the matter, issuing on March 8, 1957, the “Guangdong Province Guangzhou Municipal People’s Committee Award, First Award Certificate,” in special recognition. In 1958, it was turned into a memorial museum, and it became one of the first ten Guangdong Provincial-level Cultural Relics Protection Units announced by the Guangdong Provincial Government in 1962 and re-confirmed in July 1978. It is currently among the seventh batch of Guangdong sites awaiting national cultural relics protection status.
