The Guangzhou Municipal Archives serves as a patriotic education base.

The Guangzhou Municipal Archives (Bureau) was established in 1959. The Guangzhou Municipal Archives Bureau operates under a dual-name, single-staff management system and is a directly affiliated agency of the Guangzhou Municipal Government. The Guangzhou Municipal Archives Bureau oversees the city’s archival affairs, engaging in overall planning, organization and coordination, unified regulation, and supervision and guidance. Specifically, it is responsible for implementing the laws, regulations, and policies of the Party and the state regarding archival work, formulating relevant local regulations and rules for archival work, supervising and guiding the archival work of government agencies, enterprises, and institutions at all levels across the city, and carrying out educational training, academic exchanges, and promotional activities. The Guangzhou Municipal Archives is responsible for collecting and preserving archives from various historical periods in Guangzhou that require long-term retention by the Party, government, and other relevant entities, and provides archival services to government agencies, organizations, and all sectors of society. The Guangzhou Municipal Archives was rated as a National First-Class Archives in 1995. Among its collections, many archives from the Republican era are valuable historical materials of significant importance. Since the mid-1980s, it has successively opened to the public archives from the Republican era and a portion of archives created by various agencies after the liberation. Since 1994, during the municipal grassroots democratic evaluation of government agencies, the Guangzhou Municipal Archives Bureau and Archives have been commended and rewarded by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government for eight consecutive years.
