The Guangdong Earthquake Science Popularization and Education Center serves as a science education base.

The Guangdong Earthquake Science Popularization and Education Center is located on the 2nd floor of the office building of the Guangdong Earthquake Administration at No. 1, Compound 81, Xianlie Middle Road, Guangzhou City, covering a total area of 730 square meters. The construction project of the Guangdong Earthquake Science Popularization Center is one of the key projects of the Guangdong Province Seismic Disaster Prevention and Mitigation 10th Five-Year Plan, approved by the People's Government of Guangdong Province and the China Earthquake Administration. It was officially opened to the public on July 28, 2006.

Exhibition Content

The museum exhibition includes an internet interactive area, an earthquake simulation interactive area, a multimedia interactive area, physical exhibits, display panels, and more. It makes full use of modern exhibition techniques to organically integrate educational content, fun, and interactivity, helping the public understand the causes of earthquakes and methods for earthquake prevention and resistance, as well as exploring knowledge and skills for emergency self-rescue and mutual aid.

Interactive Experience Zone

The center is staffed with professional and part-time science educators and explainers. The general public can view various earthquake detection instruments and, in the “Earthquake Simulation Interactive Area,” witness in person how energy and time are calculated based on waveform transmission through the seismic motion caused by jumping. Through these exhibitions, more people can overcome complacency and fear regarding earthquakes. “Small quakes are nothing to fear, big ones you can’t outrun. To save your life, take cover where you’re from.” This simple rhyme succinctly captures the essentials of earthquake preparedness and self-rescue. So what should you do if an earthquake strikes—at home? At school? In a public place? The Guangdong Earthquake Science Popularization and Education Center provides answers to all these scenarios.
