Haopan Mosque

Haopan Mosque is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Guangzhou.

The mosque is also known as Haopan Temple. It is located on Hao Pan Street, Renmin Middle Road, Guangzhou. Originally built during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty, it was reconstructed in the 45th year of the Kangxi reign (1706) of the Qing Dynasty. After 1949, the mosque served as a rotating site for the Islamic Jumu'ah prayer gatherings. Structures such as the Moon-Viewing Tower, north and south corridors, and ablution facilities within the mosque have been demolished, leaving only the main gate and the main prayer hall.

The main gate faces south. Its tiled roof is damaged, with only remnants of walls and a stone gate frame remaining. The gate also features a stone plaque inscribed with the three characters “清真寺” (Mosque).

The main prayer hall faces east and is oriented westward, measuring 18.8 meters in width across five bays and 19.6 meters in depth across five bays. It has a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof covered with gray tubular tiles, but the plaster sculptures on the main ridge are damaged. The interior beam framework uses 13 beams supported by four columns with three-step beams at the front and rear, while the outer eaves form a four-beam rolled corridor. Except for the seven-beam span, moon beams are used throughout. The rafter blocks, bracket arms, and beam ends are exquisitely crafted, and the interior is adorned with carved flower screens featuring scrolling vine patterns in gold and wood. Each of the two side gables has three arched doors, all fitted with hexagonal lattice-patterned partitions divided into six sections — a distinctive feature. It is a well-preserved architectural structure from the early Qing Dynasty.

In 1993, it was designated as a cultural heritage conservation unit by the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government.
