The former site of Zhongyuan Hang, the secret liaison office of the South China Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, is a protected cultural heritage site of Guangzhou.

The former site of Zhongyuan Hang, the secret liaison office of the South China Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, is located at No. 153 Yanjiang West Road, Yuexiu District.

During the Liberation War, this site was the secret liaison office of the South China Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the location of the underground Guangzhou Municipal Committee. The Chinese Communist underground used a shipping company called “Zhongyuan Hang” as a cover to conduct covert missions. A large amount of intelligence was sent from here, ultimately contributing to the victorious liberation of Guangzhou. This is the only remaining architectural witness in Guangzhou from the period of the South China Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

In 2015, the former site of Zhongyuan Hang, the secret liaison office of the South China Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, was designated as a protected cultural heritage site of Guangzhou.

Protected Area: To the east, 5 meters beyond the eastern boundary of the former Zhongyuan Hang building; to the south, 5 meters beyond the northern boundary of Changdi Avenue to the south; to the north, 3.4 meters beyond the outer edge of the former Zhongyuan Hang building, extending locally to the southern boundary of the two-story building north of the former site of the Sino-French Taomei Hospital; to the west, connected to the protected area boundary of the former Sino-French Taomei Hospital site, extending 5 meters beyond its outer edge, and locally to the eastern wall of the adjacent seven-story comprehensive outpatient building.

Construction Control Zone: To the east, extending from the protected area boundary to the current western boundary of Jiefang South Road; to the north, 10 meters beyond the northern boundary of the former Zhongyuan Hang building; to the south, to the planned southern boundary of Changdi Avenue; to the west, connected to the construction control zone boundary of the former Sino-French Taomei Hospital site, extending 10 meters beyond the protected area boundary.
