Xiaodongmen Bridge

Xiaodongmen Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangzhou.

Xiaodongmen Bridge is located at Sanjiaoshi in Yuexiu South Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, spanning the Donghao Stream. It was built during the Song Dynasty, originally constructed from massive stones and known as Donggao Bridge. During the Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Yong’an Bridge. In the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936), it was rebuilt as a reinforced concrete beam bridge and renamed Xiaodongmen Bridge. The current structure preserves the appearance of a city moat bridge from that period, with the engraved characters “Xiaodongmen Bridge” inscribed by Wen Shusheng.

In the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936), it was reconstructed with a reinforced concrete structure and officially renamed Xiaodongmen Bridge, as it is situated outside the Xiaodongmen city gate of Guangzhou. It has retained this name to the present day. In 2003, it was listed as a registered cultural relic protection unit of Guangzhou.

In December 2008, it was designated as part of the seventh batch of cultural relic protection units of Guangzhou.
