Former Site of Ye Jianying’s Secret Strategy Meeting Against the Rebels

The Former Site of Ye Jianying’s Secret Strategy Meeting Against the Rebels is a protected cultural heritage site of Guangzhou.

The Former Site of Ye Jianying’s Secret Strategy Meeting Against the Rebels is located at No. 15 Xiaomazhan, Xihu Road, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, and was originally the Zeng Family Ancestral Hall. On June 16, 1922, Chen Jiongming openly rebelled. Upon learning of the rebellion, Ye Jianying immediately joined forces with Chen Ce to escort Sun Yat-sen onto the warship “Bao Bi,” then transferred to the “Yongfeng” warship, and subsequently led his troops to follow Sun Yat-sen in advancing toward Bai'e Tan, where they fought bravely against the rebel forces. From late June to early August, Ye Jianying continued to protect Sun Yat-sen. During this period, he secretly met—with over ten others including his fellow alumni from the Yunnan Military Academy, Zhang Guosen and Cai Gongwu—at the Zeng Family Ancestral Hall in Guangzhou’s Xiaomazhan to strategize—discussing plans to suppress Chen Jiongming. They sent telegrams both domestically and abroad to denounce Chen Jiongming and firmly expressed their support for Sun Yat-sen.

In August 2002, the site was designated as part of the sixth batch of protected cultural heritage sites in Guangzhou.
