Guangzhou Mingyuan

Guangzhou Mingyuan is a protected cultural heritage site of Guangzhou.

Mingyuan is located at Nos. 12 and 14, Peizheng Road, Yuexiu District.

Due to its unique geographical location and historical culture, Mingyuan differs from traditional local architecture in Guangzhou. In restoring its style, more Westernized elements of the time were incorporated to recreate the early Republican-era Mingyuan.

As it was originally built as a Western-style villa for an official’s family, the number of rooms is naturally quite large—there are five in total. In designing the bedrooms, in addition to restoring the original style, the Ideal Home team focused more on livability and comfort. Influenced by Western styles of the time, Mingyuan differs from traditional Guangzhou architecture of the period with its abundance of windows. During the renovation process, these windows were preserved, resulting in excellent natural lighting. The bedrooms are airy and bright, requiring little decoration to feel serene and uncluttered.

Under an overall cohesive style, each room offers a different experience, with varying enhancements in functionality. Bedroom Two adds a five-drawer chest and an antique vanity. Compared to the natural simplicity of Bedroom One, this room feels more formal. In addition to fully preserving cultural artifacts, Mingyuan has also restored many elements from the Republican era, such as functional layouts. Interior design during the Republican period, much like today, placed great emphasis on spatial functionality.

Nearly every antique in Mingyuan is still functional and usable to this day. Nothing in the space serves merely decorative purposes.

In August 1993, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of Protected Cultural Heritage Sites of Guangzhou by the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government.
