Sun Yat-sen Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery

The Sun Yat-sen Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural heritage site protected by Guangzhou Municipality.

Built in 1923, the Sun Yat-sen Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is the burial site of martyrs from the Xinhai Revolution. Located at No. 25 Xianlie South Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, it stands adjacent to the tomb of Deng Yinnan. The entire cemetery spans several acres, covered in lush green grass and shaded by trees.

Mr. Deng Yinnan once said during his lifetime, “When I pass away, all comrades of the Revive China Society should be buried together.” As a result, 27 members of the Revive China Society, including Zhong Rongguang, Deng Zhiqing, Chen Shaobai, and Su Zhuonan, initiated the establishment of the cemetery. In October 1923, upon the order of Sun Yat-sen, the then Governor of Guangdong Province allocated land in Dabao Gang, eastern Guangzhou (the current site) for its construction. A yellow memorial archway was built at the front of the cemetery, inscribed with the words “Sun Yat-sen Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery.” Within the cemetery stands a square stone pillar monument known as the “Original Tomb of the Revive China Society,” with an inscribed base detailing the reasons and process behind the cemetery’s establishment. The graves are arranged in a single row from east to west, successively burying members Pan Jia, Song Shaoyin, Song Jurén, Zhen Bi, Zhen Jiting, Huang Bihua, Huang Longsheng and his wife, Ms. Huang Guiyue, Lin Yonglun and his wife He, Song Shaodong, Lin Haishan and his wife Zheng. Among them, the tomb of Huang Bihua, built in 1923, is relatively early and larger in scale. The tombs vary in design—some are memorial stele-style, others pavilion-style, and some feature standalone gravestones. They range from tall and simple to small and delicate.
