Dàyundong Cliff Carvings

The Dàyundong Cliff Carvings are a protected cultural relic of Guangdong Province.

Dàyundong, located 3 kilometers west of Lianzhou Town in Lianzhou City, features cliff carvings that are listed as a key cultural relic protection site of Guangdong Province. Inside the cave, mineral water drips continuously throughout the year without drying up, resembling emerald droplets, hence the name "Dripping Emerald from Graceful Rock," one of the ancient "Eight Scenic Spots of Huangchuan." The cave is inscribed with cliff carvings by many notable historical figures, including Zhou Dunyi and Zhang Jun (a Southern Song Dynasty prime minister) from the Song Dynasty. Among them is an inscription of the following poem: "Who carved open the sky in the pool, / The miraculous work of spirits leaves no trace of years. / Seeking the immortal’s bed and butterfly dreams, / I idly strike the stone drum, startling dragons to sleep. / The cave drips milk-white water—sunshine yet feels like rain, / The cliff stands by the river, mist veiling the water. / Today I revisit this scenic wonder, / Tracing our past lives through traces on melting snow." From the poem, one can see that Dàyundong boasts uniquely beautiful scenery and is truly a renowned destination for visitors throughout the ages.
