Lianzhou Museum

Lianzhou Museum, located at No. 34 Yanxi Road, beside the Cultural Square in Lianzhou City, Guangdong Province, covers a construction area of over 2,500 square meters. It houses a collection of more than 1,000 cultural relics dating from the Neolithic Age, as well as contemporary calligraphy and paintings, modern production tools, household items, and folk handicrafts. The museum was completed and put into use on September 28, 1999. The building features a Song Dynasty-style design with four floors, spanning an area of 2,560 square meters. The collection includes bronzeware, pottery, porcelain, silverware, ironware, wooden ware, folk production and daily utensils, Yao ethnic costumes, and artworks by renowned artists, among others.

Lianzhou Museum is a comprehensive museum that holistically reflects the ancient and modern charm of Lianzhou, a renowned historical and cultural city in Guangdong. The museum features thematic exhibitions such as "Ancient Charm of Lianzhou," "Spirit of Lianzhou," and "Folklore of Lianzhou." It systematically showcases the museum’s finest cultural relics, the historical development of Lianzhou, the revolutionary struggle history of the people of Lianzhou, local folk customs, cultural and artistic works, and achievements in the city’s dual civilization construction. The exhibits are detailed and the content is rich.

Since 2008, Lianzhou Museum has offered free admission. In recent years, it has utilized its collection resources and adopted various methods such as hosting touring exhibitions and collaborative displays to promote patriotic education, playing an important role in the city’s cultural development.

The first-floor temporary exhibition hall hosts various themed temporary exhibitions. For example, recent exhibitions have included "Exploring Lianzhou’s Historical and Cultural Heritage," "--History and Sovereignty," "Imprints—Lu Xun Exhibition from Middle School Chinese Textbooks," "The Amazing World of Insects," and "Ecological Culture Photo Exhibition of Mount Everest Nature Reserve." The "Lianzhou International Photography Annual Exhibition Works Exhibition" has been displayed here continuously for 12 years. Currently, the "Photographic Exhibition of Lianzhou Cultural Relics Protection Units" is being held.

The second-floor permanent exhibition hall features the following exhibitions: "Glorious Journey—The Revolutionary History of the People of Lianzhou." The main content includes an exhibition on the life of Feng Dafei, an anti-Japanese hero and Lianzhou native who was a graduate of the first class of the Whampoa Military Academy, former acting commander of the Eighth Red Army, deputy commander and education director of the New Fourth Army Education Corps, and deputy commander of the New Second Detachment of the New Fourth Army, as well as an exhibition on the revolutionary struggle history of the people of Lianzhou.

The "Folklore of Lianzhou" exhibition primarily showcases the production, daily life, artifacts, and real-life scenes of Lianzhou’s indigenous residents, featuring items such as water mills, dragon bone carts, plows, harrows, winnowing fans, distillers, and film projectors.

The "Yao Village Seasons" exhibition displays the culture of the Yao ethnic group in Lianzhou. Lianzhou has two Yao ethnic townships inhabited by the Guoshan Yao people. This exhibition hall showcases exquisitely handmade Yao ethnic costumes, simple production and daily utensils, the "Pín Huáng Juàn Dié" and "Guò Shān Bǎng" which document the migration history of the Yao people, and marriage contracts that highlight the unique marital customs of the Yao.

The third-floor permanent exhibition hall hosts the following exhibitions:

The "Enduring Affection for Lianzhou · Huang Xihua and Li Xiulan Exhibition Hall" features multiple works by master artists such as Xu Beihong, Guan Shanyue, and Li Xiongcai, as well as pieces by Lianzhou calligraphers Chen Zuoliang, Li Muke, and Ouyang Shaofeng. This is another heartfelt contribution by Mr. and Mrs. Huang Xihua in support of Lianzhou’s cultural development. Since opening to the public in December 2008, it has received over 600,000 visitors.

The "Spirit of Lianzhou" exhibition displays over 400 precious historical relics unearthed locally in Lianzhou, including animal bone fossils from the Neolithic Age, bronzeware, iron swords, various types of pottery, and the most representative agricultural production tool pottery model from the Jin Dynasty—ox-plowed paddy fields. It also features a mysterious Western Han Dynasty wooden-chambered tomb whose owner remains unidentified.

In recent years, the museum has vigorously promoted its free admission policy, organized self-curated exhibitions, introduced touring exhibitions, and co-hosted multiple exhibitions. Various themed exhibitions have been extended to grassroots cultural stations and schools. Lianzhou Museum is a patriotic education base in Qingyuan City, an integrity education base in Lianzhou City, and a moral education base for primary and secondary schools in Lianzhou Town, Lianzhou City.

Lianzhou Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Lianzhou City. It is the seat of the municipal government. Established as Lianzhou Commune in 1958 and upgraded to a town in 1968, it covers an area of 104.8 square kilometers with a population of 97,000. National Highway 107 runs through the town, and the Lianjiang River is navigable. It administers 17 management areas (village committees): Longkou, Xiemin, Shazigang, Longzui, Nitán, Mandi, Yuantán, Sangu Tan, Liangjiang, Gaodui, Banling, Jinfeng, Shen Shuidong, Chengdong, Chengnan, Chengxi, and Chengbei, as well as three neighborhood offices: Beihu, Nanmen, and Dongshan.
